Baptism and Thanksgiving for a Child

Baptism:

We are pleased that you are enquiring about baptism for yourself or your child at St. George’s

A child may be baptised (or “Christened” – they’re the same thing!) at any age. Sometimes parents choose to ask for their baby to be baptised, others wait until the child is a little older.

During a baptism service, your child will be welcomed into the family of the church and the congregation will promise to support your child and you, as parents; the baptism therefore usually takes place in the main Sunday morning service. The service marks the start of a lifelong journey of faith for your child and is a special day for your family and friends, and for the church. We recognise that there are situations where it may not be possible for the baptism to occur in a main service; Revd David will be happy to speak to you and explore how we can work together to make this a special occasion for your family.

Thanksgiving for the Gift of a Child

If you decide that now isn’t the right time to have your child baptised it’s possible to hold a Thanksgiving service in church. This is a simple but very special service, when you can gather with family and friends to ask for God’s blessing and pray for your child.
